East Lothian Special Needs Playscheme

Scottish Charity Number: SC017097

What we do:

We provide a specialist Playscheme provision for East Lothian’s children aged 5 to 16 years who have a wide range of disabilities.

Our Playschemes operate from three bases – North Berwick Community Centre, Meadowpark, Knox Academy School and our Hub base for severe and complex needs in Sanderson Wynd Primary School, Tranent.

The Playschemes each run for 5 weeks over the Easter, Summer and October school holidays and provide an opportunity for the children to take part in a range of appropriate social activities, whilst in a safe and supported environment.

Volunteers:

We recruit local volunteers, predominantly from the local high schools, to provide 1-1 support and friendship for the young people who attend Playscheme with a disability. Our volunteers are caring, enthusiastic, reliable and most importantly FUN!

Our children are given an opportunity to interact with other young people in their local communities, preventing social isolation and creating genuine friendships that grow over the holiday periods.

Many of our volunteers gain the skills and confidence to go on into social care professions or appropriate further education courses as a result of the first-hand experience they gain.

North Berwick Community Centre:

North Berwick Community Centre provides the ideal venue for our Playschemes to enjoy a variety of activities including outdoor play, parks, bikes, go-karts, bouncy castle, baking, snoezlin room, access to the beach, swimming pools and much more!
